Groove To Host Roundball Clinic

Greenville, S.C., August 29, 2002 â The 2002 National Basketball Development League (NBDL) Champion Greenville Groove and the Hillcrest (S.C.)High School Rams Booster Club will host the Southern Roundball Coaches Clinic on Saturday October 5th. The event will be held at Hillcrest High School and is open to basketball coaches of all levels. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m.
An advanced registration fee of $50 per person and a $65 at-the-door registration fee will benefit the Hillcrest High School Rams Booster Club. Attendees will receive a Greenville Groove Southern Roundball Clinic T-shirt, complimentary ticket for a 2002-03 Greenville Groove game, and lunch on site provided by Chick-Fil-A.
The all-star coaching staff includes Greenville Groove head coach Tree Rollins, NBDL coaches Doug Marty and Mike Sanders, along with Eddie Payne and Charles Wimphrie.
Rollins brings over 25 years of professional basketball experience to the clinic. Doug Marty is the recently named head coach of the North Charleston Lowgators. He is replacing former head coach Alex English, who just accepted a position as Director of Player Development with the Atlanta Hawks. Also from the NBDL, Mike Sanders, the assistant coach of the Asheville Altitude, will join the clinic staff. Veteran college coaches, Eddie Payne (USC-Spartanburg) and Charles Wimphrie (Southern Wesleyan), will add insight to the training session.
Guest speakers will include Karl Hicks, Executive Director of the NBDL, and Dennis Williams, Head Athletic Trainer of the Greenville Groove. Hicks will explain the overall design and goals of the NBDL. Williams will offer the latest training techniques and injury prevention tips.
