Fayetteville Patriots News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., August 29, 2002 – Fayetteville Patriots 6-foot-10 center Bayonne Taty will be featured on NBA Inside Stuff at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, August 31 on NBC. It will also air on ESPN at 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 4 at noon.

NBA Inside Stuff producer Matt Laffey and his camera crew visited Fayetteville on July 25 to film Taty in the community. Laffey's crew filmed Taty as he traveled to three area Boys & Girls Club and the YMCA to speak to children. The children played games with Taty and listened as he explained how it is possible to be successful athletically and academically.

What drew the Inside Stuff to Fayetteville and what empowers Taty to speak on the topic of academic and athletic success was Taty's summer internship with Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the NBDL. Taty's internship lasted seven weeks. Two of those weeks were spent in Fayetteville. In that span, Taty assisted the Patriots in developing a marketing plan that ties Sprite in with the NBDL.

Taty is expected to sign an NBDL contract and be in Patriots training camp, which starts Nov. 2. The Patriots acquired Taty for the remainder of the 2001-2002 season on Jan. 29, 2002. He played 23 games and averaged 10.1 minutes, 1.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Taty graduated from Seton Hall in 1997 with a 3.2 GPA and a degree in business finance and investment.

Saturday's NBA Inside Stuff piece on Taty will air as a duel feature with 5-foot-11 Huntsville point guard Michael Wilks. Wilks was an intern with the YMCA in July, and recently signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. This weekend's show will be the last NBC airing of the nationally televised show before its move to ABC.

The weekly half-hour show, produced by NBA Entertainment and hosted by executive producer Ahmad Rashad and co-host Summer Sanders, will be part of ABC's Saturday morning newly branded programming line-up called "ABC Kids."

Inside Stuff will debut with a fresh new look, revealing a new fun-filled set, music, graphics, and educational recurring features on Sept. 7.

This Saturday's NBA Inside Stuff show will not be Fayetteville's only opportunity for national TV exposure. ESPN2 will air three tape-delayed games from the Crown Coliseum this season starting on Saturday, Jan. 18 against the Roanoke Dazzle. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The game will be taped on Jan. 18 and televised Monday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. on ESPN2.

The Patriots will be televised more than any other NBDL team this season with a total of six appearances. All three televised home games are a part of the Patriots' 13-game season ticket plan. The Jan. 18 and Feb. 22 televised games from the Crown are on the 7-game plan. Season ticket plans start as low as $56. Patriots single-game tickets range from $6-$21.

Group tickets are also available at discounted prices. Log on to www.fayettevillepatriots.com for more information on group ticket rates or call 910-213-1012.

The 2002-2003 starts on Nov. 15 at home against the Asheville Altitude. On Nov. 12, the Patriots play North Charleston in a preseason game at the Crown, and on Oct. 15 the Patriots will bring NBA basketball to the Crown as the Washington Wizards battle the Denver Nuggets in an exhibition game.
