Greenville Groove News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 3, 2003) - The Greenville Groove of the National Basketball Development League has acquired guard Dean Oliver, according to an announcement today by NBDL Executive Director Karl Hicks and Groove Head Coach Tree Rollins. To make room for Oliver, the Groove waived guard Jeff Myers.
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound point guard, Oliver played collegiately at Iowa ('01). He played in 35 games over parts of two seasons in the NBA before being released by the Golden State Warriors in December 2002. Oliver averaged 1.8 points and 1.3 assists per game with Golden State.
Oliver is one of only three players in the history of the Big Ten Conference to collect over 1,500 points, 500 assists and 200 steals. As a senior at Iowa, he averaged 14.9 points, 4.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.
Myers, the 2002 NBDL Defensive Player of the Year, fought back from an off-season knee injury to average 15.2 minutes, 6.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals over 13 games (no starts) after being re-signed by the Groove on Jan. 2.
Oliver is expected to play when Greenville travels to Asheville Wednesday. He will wear jersey number 20.
