Alexander Named Player of the Month

GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 3, 2003) â Roanoke Dazzle point guard Cory Alexander has been named the National Basketball Development League Player of the Month for games in January 2003.
Alexander averaged 20.6 points, 7.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game while leading the Dazzle to an 8-3 record in January. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound University of Virginia product leads the NBDL in assists and minutes played per game, averaging 6.2 and 35.8, respectively. He is sixth in the league in scoring at 16.3 points per game.
Following is a look at additional Alexander highlights from the month of January:
· Scored in double-figures in all 11 games played.
· Scored a personal season-high 32 points in 115-112 victory over Fayetteville on Jan. 18.
· Scored at least 20 points in six of 11 games during the month.
· Recorded a league-high 13 assists against Greenville on Jan. 29.
· Had three double-doubles with points and assists during the month.
· Roanoke's "Iron Horse", playing an average of 38.6 minutes. NBDL games are 40 minutes.
· Played every minute of every game in eight of 11 contests during the month.
Alexander is the first Roanoke Dazzle player to earn NBDL Player of the Month Honors since the league began play in November 2001. Jeff Trepagnier of Asheville was NBDL Player of the Month for November and Tang Hamilton of Columbus took the honors in December for this season.
Other nominations for NBDL Player of the Month for games in January 2003 include Trepagnier, Nate Green of Columbus, Devin Brown of Fayetteville, Kevin Lyde of Greenville, Brandon Williams of Huntsville, Cedric Henderson of Mobile and Tierre Brown of North Charleston.
Alexander and the Dazzle (15-14) return to action Wednesday, playing host to Fayetteville (17-13) at the Roanoke Civic Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
