Fairbanks, AK. The Fairbanks Grizzlies Indoor Football Team is pleased to announce the signing of QB Ryan Ratekin from Southwest Minnesota State University.
In 2008 the 6'3 205 QB from Chico, CA, led Butte Junior College to a 12-0 record, the California JC State Championship, and the 2008 JC National Championship. Ratekin was a Team Captain and the Most Valuable Player for Head Coach Jeff Jordan. Ratekin signed with Southwest Minnesota State (DII) and turned in a great season for the Mustangs. Ratekin went 225 of 352 passes for 2,963 yards with 33 TD's and finished with a 63.9% completion percentage. For his efforts Ratekin was selected to the All-NSIC South Division Team and the NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year. As a senior, Ratekin passed for 2,098 yards and 18 TD's while rushing for two in 10 games. He was a 1st Team All-NSIC selection and was selected to the Don Hansen All-Super Region Three Team. In his two years at SMSU Ratekin finished as the career leader in completion percentage (60.6), fifth in TD passes (51), ninth in completions (404), ninth in passing yards (5,061) and ninth in career yardage (5,020).
"I had the opportunity to watch Ryan play this fall and I was very impressed with his level of play and his leadership abilities," stated Fairbanks Grizzlies Head Coach Robert Fuller. "I was able to spend some time with him at the All American Bowl in Minneapolis, MN, in December and I knew right away that he would be a great fit. He is very intelligent, he is an accurate passer and he is a fiery competitor. There will be an adjustment period for Ryan as he transitions to the indoor game but I believe he will catch on quickly and compete for the starting job. We are excited to have him."
