Grizzlies Re-Sign Two Position Players for 2012

The Gateway Grizzlies have re-signed Case Rigby and Kent Gerst for the 2012 season.
Rigby, a 5-11 225 pound first baseman/outfielder, played the final month of the 2011 season with the Grizzlies. Playing in 24 games with Gateway, Rigby batted .354 with seven doubles and nine RBI. The 23-year-old from Clovis, CA played his first game with Gateway on August 9th and collected 12 multi-hit games.
"Case did well for us in a short time, but I want to see how he has improved when he comes into camp this season," Grizzlies Manager Phil Warren said. "Hitting is his strong suit and his bat will determine if he's in the lineup or not."
Gerst, who spent 2010 with Windy City and Southern Illinois in the Frontier League, joined Gateway in early July and got off to a hot start. Gerst, a 5-10 177 pound outfielder, homered in five of the first nine games he played in. The 23-year-old from O'Fallon, MO was hampered by a hamstring injury to close out the season, but still finished with ten homers, seven doubles and two triples in 36 games. Gerst drove in 25 runs and stole six bases.
"Kent is a veteran by tenure, but is still very young," Warren remarked. "He went into professional baseball right out of high school and has had some good seasons, but we are looking for a great season from him. I'm looking for him to put everything together and have a career year."
