Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies' As Seen on TV Night, one of last season's highlight events, has been selected as the runner-up in Minor League Baseball's 2009 Promotion of the Year voting at MiLB.com. This marks the third consecutive season that a Grizzlies promotion has been nominated as a finalist for MiLB's Promotion of the Year, a distinction that cannot be boasted by any other Minor League Baseball organization in the country. The Grizzlies won the 2008 Promotion of the Year nod and were named a top 10 finalist in 2007.
Candidacy for MiLB.com's 2009 Promotion of the Year was narrowed down to 10 finalists two weeks ago, before voting was opened up to fans to decide the winner. The Grizzlies were the only team from California nominated, and one of only three Triple-A teams to be included in the final online vote.
As Seen on TV Night, which took place on June 6, received 9,489 online votes- good for more than 40% of the total ballots cast. The valiant voting effort on behalf of the Grizzlies' tribute to infomercials and beloved product pitchmen fell just short of a back-to-back repeat performance however. The Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Midwest League ultimately took the top slot, with their "What Could Have Been Night" garnering over 11,000 votes.
"We're extremely proud that we're the only team to have been a finalist in three consecutive seasons, it's a real honor and a testament to the passion and inventiveness of our tremendous staff," said Scott Carter, Grizzlies Senior Vice President of Marketing. "We look forward to developing more promotions in 2010 that will give fans entertaining reasons to come to the ballpark while delivering the utmost in value for our community."
In addition to As Seen on TV Night placing second in the 2009 Promotion of the Year award voting, several other Grizzlies promotions from the past season were given honorable mention status including Mad Tight '90s Night featuring Dennis 'Mr. Belding' Haskins, Magically Superstitious Night, Nerd Night, and The Great Fresno Tweetup.
