Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies announced today that they will host the Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds baseball team in an exhibition game at Chukchansi Park on Tuesday, April 5th at 7:05pm. The contest will culminate a busy day at the ballpark, as both the Fresno stop of the San Francisco Giants' World Champions Trophy Tour, presented by Visa, and Grizzlies Media Day will take place that afternoon.

The Giants' World Champions Trophy will make its second and final trip to Fresno from 12:00pm-2:00pm on April 5th. The trophy will be on display in the new CRU Club at Chukchansi Park and viewings will be open to the public, free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans will be able to purchase an official photo through Giants Fan Photos at www.printroom.com/pro/sfgiants/.

"We couldn't ask for a better way to kick off our 2011 season than having the World Champions Trophy visit Fresno and playing Fresno Pacific University at our ballpark," said Grizzlies President Chris Cummings.

The Grizzlies will host Fresno Pacific in a preseason exhibition later that evening at 7:05pm. The Grizzlies are currently offering a special Opening Weekend Experience ticket package that includes a Field Box seat for the exhibition game and all four games of Opening Weekend, Thursday through Sunday, as well as a number of special perks. In addition to the five tickets, fans will also get a pregame, behind-the-scenes tour of the ballpark on Friday, a pregame catch on the field on Saturday, and a post-game photo in the dugout on Sunday all for just $59.

The exhibition marks the first ever meeting between the Triple-A club and Fresno Pacific. As part of the agreement between the organization and the University, the Grizzlies have pledged to donate $500 to Fresno Pacific for every full-season seat sold to the CRU Club between now and Opening Day. The Grizzlies will continue to donate that full amount for each season that those seats are renewed, as well. The Fresno Pacific University Foundation will also be the beneficiary of one of the Grizzlies' jersey auctions in 2011.

"We are extremely pleased to partner with the Fresno Grizzlies this season," said Fresno Pacific University Athletic Director Dennis Janzen. "As the top affiliate of the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, the opportunity for Sunbird baseball to play the Grizzlies during their exhibition season is exciting for the Fresno Pacific community as well as the Fresno community at large."

"This is a great opportunity for our program," added Fresno Pacific Head Baseball Coach Oscar Hirschkorn. "It's an honor and a privilege to be on the same field as the Fresno Grizzlies. We are thankful for this chance to experience this level of baseball."

The Fresno Grizzlies begin the official portion of their 10th Pacific Coast League season at Chukchansi Park on Thursday, April 7th, 2011 when they welcome the Las Vegas 51s to downtown Fresno. Season ticket and mini-plan packages are now available at the Chukchansi Park Box Office or by calling 559-320-HITS.
