FOREST CITY, N.C. - Gastonia held off Forest City 5-4 Thursday night at McNair Field.
Sammy Taormina (Liberty), Jackson Mims (East Carolina) and Taylor Allum (Kennesaw State) all went 2-for-4. Brennan Morgan (Kennesaw State) was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Zack Sightler (Winthrop) earned the victory on the mound (3-2) with 6.2 innings of starting pitching, allowing four runs on six hits.
The Grizzlies (10-4, 27-15) host the Owls Friday in the Midnight Madness doubleheader beginning at 8 p.m. Game Two follows a fireworks extravaganza at approximately 11 p.m.
Winners of the CPL West Division first-half championship, Gastonia clinched a postseason berth on July 29. The Petitt Cup playoffs begin Aug. 5 featuring the top eight teams in the league in best-of-three, first-round series with the higher seeds holding home-field advantage.
