Grizzlies edge RiverHawks, 3-2, salvage series

LOVES PARK, Ill. ¬-Rockford spotted Gateway two unearned runs and the Grizzlies held on to beat the RiverHawks, 3-2, Wednesday at RiverHawks Stadium.

The Grizzlies salvaged the finale of a three-game series and snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Rockford starter Tanner Watson (4-4) didn't give up an earned run in 7 2/3 innings, but took the loss. Brooks Colvin scored in the sixth inning when a potential double-play ball short-hopped past second baseman Cody Brooks for an error. In the eighth, Kevin House singled and later scored on an Eric Cavers passed ball.

Jason Arrowood singled home an insurance run in the top of the ninth.

The RiverHawks rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Pinch-hitter Gooby Gerlits doubled home a run. A second scored on a groundout. Gerlits, the tying run, was left at third when moonlighting starter Nathan Roush retired Joe Anthonsen on a game-ending groundout.

Roush earned his first save. Chris Little (3-2) pitched seven-plus innings of shutout ball for the win.

The RiverHawks visit Traverse City for three 6:05 p.m. CDT games, beginning Thursday.
