The Gateway Grizzlies have announced the re-signing of outfielder Antone DeJesus, who played in 93 games for the Grizzlies in 2012.

"This is a big signing for us," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "Antone is a veteran player who can change a game both offensively and defensively. We are thrilled to have him back for another season."

DeJesus, 27, batted .270 with five home runs and 46 RBI in 2012, while also stealing 11 bases. The Lexington, KY native was a key part of the 57-win Grizzlies team in 2012 that won the Frontier League West Division. He played the entire season in centerfield for the Grizzlies.

"Antone had a solid 2012 season, but I think we can expect to see even more in 2013," Warren remarked. "He's a great competitor with a strong work ethic and a desire to win."

The former University of Kentucky standout was drafted in the 16th round of the 2007 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and has played in 481 games in his career over the course of six professional seasons. He is a .271 career hitter with 98 extra base hits and 66 stolen bases. DeJesus, who bats and throws left-handed, reached Double-A Springfield in the Cardinals organization.

The Grizzlies 2013 home opener is on May 21st when they take on the Joliet Slammers at GCS Ballpark. Season and group tickets are on sale now. For more information call 618.337.3000.
