Grizzlies Blanked by Wild Things

Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Washington, PA - The Gateway Grizzlies were held to only three hits offensively on Friday night in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Washington Wild Things at Wild Things Park, spoiling a good start on the mound from Carson LaRue (5-4).

Washington got on the board on three straight singles leading off the third inning, with Scotty Dubrule's infield hit scoring the game's first run. Two batters later, Andrew Czech's RBI groundout made it 2-0, and in the top of the fourth, Robert Chayka hit a solo home run for what would turn out to be the final 3-0 score.

LaRue pitched into the seventh inning, settling down from there and retiring 10 batters in a row at one point to give the Grizzlies a chance to win with no walks and five strikeouts.

But Gateway's offense never got going in the game, as Jairus Richards led off the game with a double, but ended up being stranded at third base, as the Grizzlies then went hitless from that point until the eighth. They were able to get back-to-back hits in that inning off the starter Dariel Fregio (2-1), but again could not score in being shut out for only the second time all season long.

The Grizzlies will look to bounce back in the middle game on Saturday, August 5, at 6:05 p.m. CT. Lukas Veinbergs will pitch in the contest for the Grizzlies against Washington's Kobe Foster at Wild Things Park.
