Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
Grand Rapids, Mich. â The Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation will present a special screening of the acclaimed film "Miracle" on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. at Studio 28 in Wyoming, Mich. (1350 28th St. SW).
1980 U.S. Olympic gold medalist Ken Morrow and 1994 U.S. Olympian Travis Richards will serve as hosts for this unique event, to introduce the movie, sign autographs and answer fans' questions after the show. Morrow, a native of Flint, went on to win four Stanley Cups as a member of the New York Islanders, while Richards is preparing for his ninth season as a member of the Griffins.
Advance tickets are $10 per person and include popcorn and a soft drink. Tickets may only be purchased at the Griffins' office at Van Andel Arena or by contacting Michael Sekulich, executive director of the foundation, at (616) 451-9708. Note that only cash or check will be accepted as payment, and that tickets are not available at Studio 28.
VHS copies of "Miracle" autographed by Morrow will be given away during the event, courtesy of Blockbuster. The showing was made possible through the generosity of Disney and Studio 28, which have donated the use of the film and the theater, respectively.
All proceeds will benefit the Griffins Youth Foundation's mission to expand the opportunities for underprivileged children to participate in ice skating and related sports activities, and to encourage academic excellence, community involvement and healthy lifestyles among the youth of West Michigan.
This special screening of "Miracle" will serve as a prelude to the Griffins Youth Foundation's Tenth Annual Golf Classic, which will take place on Monday, Aug. 23 at Railside Golf Club in Byron Center.
Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland and assistant GM Jim Nill will highlight the list of hockey celebrities participating in the golf classic, joining Morrow, fellow 1980 gold medalist Jack O'Callahan, Kentwood native and current Philadelphia Flyers right wing Mike Knuble, former Griffins and current Florida Panthers defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski, Chicago Blackhawks and former Grand Rapids Owls broadcaster Pat Foley, Griffins GM Bob McNamara and Griffins head coach Danton Cole.
A few openings in the tournament are still available at a cost of $800 per foursome or $225 per individual. Interested parties should contact Michael Sekulich at (616) 451-9708.
