May 19, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grand Rapids Griffins assistant coach Jim Paek will visit Grand Rapids Montessori Public School (111 College NE) on Thursday, May 20 at 10:30 a.m. to read to a group of fourth, fifth and sixth-graders.
This private event is open to media, who are asked to check in at the school office upon arrival.
Paek recently finished his fifth season behind the Griffins' bench, making him the longest-tenured coach in franchise history. Born in Seoul, South Korea, he became the first Korean to both play in the NHL and have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, winning it as a defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992. Paek began his playing career with a three-year stint in Muskegon, Mich., during which time he helped the IHL's Lumberjacks capture the 1989 Turner Cup.
