GreyWolves Drop Pitchers' Duel in First-Ever Road Game
June 15, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Gresham GreyWolves News Release
The Victoria HarbourCats got the best of the Gresham GreyWolves in a classic pitchers' duel on Tuesday night, winning 2-0 in Gresham's (3-4) first road game in franchise history.
Right-hander Will McAffer (1-1) earned the win for Victoria (6-3). The South Dakota State product pitched into the sixth inning, allowing just two hits without allowing a run.
Drew Curtis led the GreyWolves at the plate on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. He was the only GreyWolf to record more than one hit.
The HarbourCats broke a scoreless tie with a single unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but starting pitcher Gabe Benavides (Grand Canyon) was able to escape a bases loaded jam to end the frame without another run coming across.
They then added an insurance run in the eighth against reliever Carter Buuck, making the score 2-0 before closing out the visitors from Gresham in the ninth.
The two teams will return to action Wednesday night for the second contest of the three-game series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and fans can listen to all the action on Gresham GreyWolves Live.
