Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release

The two-time defending NIFL-champion Ohio Valley Greyhounds are excited to announce the signing of QB Akili Roberson.

Roberson, released earlier this month by Staten Island, has amassed 4,437 yards passing and 84 touchdowns in his 31-game NIFL career. He has also rushed for 908 yards and 22 TDs in his three years in the league.

Akili played seven games this season for the Xtreme, completing 92 of 177 passes for 984 yards and 16 scores. The former Kansas Jayhawk has rushed for 5.1 yards-per-carry and led Staten Island in rushing yards with 228.

Last season, Roberson started 12 games for the Evansville BlueCats, throwing for a career-high 1,759 yards and found the end zone 40 times (31 through the air, nine on the ground). In 2002, Akili was named Atlantic Conference Quarterback of the Year while with Tennessee, throwing for 1,694 yards as well as 37 TDs (compared to just nine interceptions). He led the Thundercats to the Atlantic Conference Championship before losing to the eventual Indoor Bowl II champions and his new team, Ohio Valley.

The Greyhounds plan to use the versatile Roberson as a wide receiver, quarterback, and free safety.
