Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release

The Ohio Valley Greyhounds (4-4) will make the trip west to do battle with the Sioux City Bandits (6-2) this Saturday night May 28, at the Tyson Events Center. The Greyhounds evened their record this past Saturday at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling by running past the Tupelo Fireants (2-6) by a 42-15 count.

The Greyhounds will make their debut versus the North Division. The Bandits sit atop the division and feature the league's highest scoring offense at 51.5 points per game and the league's leading scorer and rusher in Fred Jackson. The Coe College product has run for 16 touchdowns, caught four and has two on returns.

In the Tupelo contest the Greyhounds were efficient on offense and ferocious on defense. Quarterback Antoine Taylor led the way with another productive start. Taylor torched the Ants finishing 12-of-15 passing for 122 yards and one score while running for 35 yards and two scores all in three quarters work. Once the game appeared out of reach for Tupelo Taylor was replaced by Zac Bruney who led a fourth quarter scoring drive while finishing 1-of-2 for nine yards.

Wide receiver Willie Austin continued his torrid pace once again leading the team in receptions. Austin finished just short of the 100-yard receiving plateau grabbing seven balls for 96 yards.

Defensively the Greyhounds continue to reap the rewards of the move of Curteese Pool to linebacker. Poole led the way with 15 tackles while Shawn Hackett was in on nine stops. Making the biggest defensive play of the night were Lew Daniels who picked off a Tommy Miller pass and sprint 14 yards for a score. Defensive lineman Andre Parker blocked a Tupelo Fireant field goal attempt and Corvin Amos picked the ball up returning it deep into Fireants territory. The defense also responded beautifully when faced with a fourth down and goal from the one-foot line. Three quarterback sneaks and a toss play were turned away by the Hounds defense.

The Greyhounds complete their practice week tonight at 7:00 PM at Wesbanco Arena, the session is as always open to the media. Contact Sarah Novak at (304) 232-4101 for any additional information.
