Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
The Ohio Valley Greyhounds announced today the return of Willie Austin at wide receiver and Corvin Amos at defensive back, along with the signing of first year player to the Greyhound roster, Michael Robinson, a wide receiver/defensive back.
Austin, a 6'3", 195 pound wide receiver from the University of Wisconsin, played with the Badgers when they won the Big 10 title and the Rose Bowl in 1999. Austin will now be playing his fourth season with the Greyhounds in 2006. In his first year as a Greyhound in 2003, Austin helped lead the team to a 17-0 undefeated season and winner of the National Indoor Football Championship.
Austin has the distinction of being the Greyhounds all time leader in receptions and receiving yards. In 2005 he was selected as a United Indoor Football League All-Star with 68 catches for the season totaling 899 yards, 10 TDs and a 69 yards per game average receiving. In the game against the Lexington Horsemen on April 30, 2005, Austin had 9 catches for 159 yards, both single game records.
Also returning for the 2006 season is Corvin Amos, a 5' 10", 185 pound defensive back from the University of Akron. Amos distinguished himself at defensive back throughout the 2005 season and is expected to be an important component of the Greyhound defense this season.
New to the Greyhound roster this year is Mike Robinson, a 6' 7", 215 pound wide receiver and defensive back who played at Fork Union Academy and Edinboro College. His size and football skills are expected to be a great addition to both the offense and defense for 2006.
"We are very pleased to have Willie (Austin) & Corvin (Amos) back with the team this year", said Lou Stein, Greyhound owner. "They are both quality players both on and off the field. We are excited to have signed Michael Robinson and we expect he will give us an edge in size in the secondary." "Head coach Mike Blackburn and his assistant coaches have been doing an exceptional job of recruiting and signing quality players from around the region and the country, continued Stein. "Over the next week, I will be announcing to the media more than a dozen players that have been signed for the upcoming 2006 season at many key positions, including quarterback."
