FORT WAYNE, Ind - The Fort Wayne Freedom went with one of their own as they selected their next head coach. Today, the team officially confirmed the signing of Dan Pifer as Head Coach. Pifer will assume the reigns of the team after being an assistant last season.

"He's a team guy. He knows what we are about and he knows the system," Owner/General Manager Rich Coffey said. "We have great team-players and have consistency and we move ahead for another great season."

Pifer is also the offensive coordinator at Tri-State University in Angola, under former Head Coach Matt Land. Dan held a similar position at Belmont High School in Decatur. He's also been an assistant at the NAIA power, the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne and NCAA Division II at Hillsdale College in Michigan. He also was a player at the University of California in Pennsylvania.

Coffey also announced that Michael Smith, the team's offensive and defensive line coach last season has been promoted to defensive coordinator, while Toney Bergmen will be become the offensive and defensive line coach.

The Freedom opens up the 2006 United Indoor Football season, Saturday, March 25 with Sioux City at Memorial Coliseum. Individual game day tickets will go on sale approximately 2 weeks prior to opening night. For more information, log onto www.fwfreedom.com.
