Fort Wayne Freedom News Release
The Fort Wayne Freedom professional indoor football team will use this upcoming bye week to heal. Coming off six consecutive losses, the injury-decimated team will use the week off practice and anticipate a "healthy" resumption of preparations next week.
The injury bug has not been kind to the Freedom this year, which went its first three seasons with only minor injuries. This season has seen All-Star RB Rocky Harvey miss the last four games, WR Luther Stroder suffer a knee injury that required surgery, backup RB Keith Bartynski suffered a season ending injury, OL Noah Swartz, OL Jamarkus Gorman, WR Dan Musielewicz and WR Adrian Reese missed games because of injuries. Last seasons UIF Most Improved Player, QB Bryan White, has participated in only one game to date.
At the start of the third quarter of last weekend's game with Evansville, there was not one offensive player who was starting at this time last season when the Freedom was 9-0.
The defense has been better than they have been given credit for. With DL Lamar Martin, DB Andrae Brooks and LB Scott Russell all missing games this season, five losses have been by a total average of less than a touchdown per game with the exception of the Lexington game,.
The Freedom will resume play on June 3rd at Ohio Valley and are at this point ½ game out of the final playoff spot.
