JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks and the Arena Football League announced Tuesday that he League has selected Jacksonville defensive back Greg Reid as the J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week for Week 17. Reid is being honored for his performance in the Sharks' 74-67 victory over the Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, July 18.

Early in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game, the Soul had the ball in Jacksonville territory looking to add to a 60-53 lead. On a second-down snap, Reid stepped in front of Philadelphia receiver Xavier Boyce, hauled in an interception, then cut to the left and raced the length of the field for a 49-yard touchdown return. Reid's first career pick-six allowed Jacksonville to tie the score at 60 with just less than nine minutes remaining.

After the ensuing kickoff, Philadelphia began its next possession from its own one-yard line. On the first snap of the Soul's drive, Reid pulled in another interception, this one along the wall. Reid actually returned that pick to the end zone as well, though a block in the pack penalty wiped away the return. Either way, Reid's second interception in as many plays gave the Sharks' offense an opportunity to regain the lead a few plays later.

Reid finished the game with 5.0 total tackles and three pass breakups to go along with his two interceptions. An AFL rookie, Reid has started each of the Sharks' last nine games and leads all Jacksonville defenders with seven interceptions in 2015. Reid has also totaled 53.0 tackles (42 solo) and 17 pass breakups, and has forced a fumble and recovered two. Reid currently ranks second among all AFL players with an average of 2.67 passes defended per game.

Reid's honor is the eighth weekly award won by a Shark this season. Wide receiver Joe Hills was named the J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week for Week 1 and earned Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 12. Wide receiver Tiger Jones earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 3 and Cutters Catch of the Week honors in Week 4. The Sharks had two weekly award winners in Week 14, as quarterback Tommy Grady was named Offensive Player of the Week and Jackson earned Playmaker of the Week honors. Finally, defensive lineman Joe Sykes earned the AFL Highlight of the Week for Week 16.
