Greenville's Morrison Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Mike Morrison of Greenville is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week for December 13-19. Signed by Edmonton of the National Hockey League in August, the 25-year-old Morrison was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.00 and had 92 saves for a save percentage of .979. He recorded his first shutout of the season with 45 saves in a 1-0 win at Las Vegas on Tuesday and had 47 saves in a 5-2 win against American Conference leader Gwinnett on Saturday.

The 6-3 and 194-pound Morrison has won his last four starts, including road wins at Fresno, Bakersfield and Las Vegas, to improve to 8-4-2 while lowering his goals-against average to 2.64 and raising his save percentage to .925.

Selected in the seventh round (186th overall) by Edmonton in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Morrison was 12-8-2 with three shutouts and a team-leading goals-against average of 2.52 and a save percentage of .913 in 27 games with Toronto of the American Hockey League in 2003-04. Recalled to Edmonton in February 2004, Morrison dressed as a back-up to Tommy Salo for the Oilers games at Nashville on February 15 and Detroit on February 16, but did not see any playing time.

In his first professional season in 2002-03, Morrison was 9-18-6 with a goals-against average of 3.48 and a save percentage of .892 in 38 games with Columbus of the ECHL.
