Greenville Groove News Release

Greenville, SC – The 2002 National Basketball Development League (NBDL) Champion Greenville Groove will kick off their Read to Achieve Program on Friday, October 25th at Greenbriar Elementary School. The press conference will begin at 1:00 pm on the school's front lawn. Coaches Tree Rollins and Stephanie Ready will visit a third grade classroom after the press conference.

Expected to attend the event are Greenville County School District Superintendent, Dr. William Harner, Executive Director of the NBDL, Karl Hicks, General Manager of the Greenville Groove, Byron Rucker, Greenville Groove Head Coach Tree Rollins, and Greenville Groove Assistant Coach Stephanie Ready.

Read To Achieve is the reading initiative of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the NBDL. The program promotes the value of reading and online literacy. Through the Read to Achieve program, teams encourage families and adults to read regularly with young children.

The program encourages all members of the NBDL family, including players, coaches, team personnel, wives and parents to participate in the program as volunteer reading coaches.

The Greenville Groove has extended an opportunity to each Elementary School in Greenville County to host a Read to Achieve event. Over a dozen schools have responded by scheduling Read To Achieve assemblies, Read to Achieve Challenges, school nights at the BILO Center, and Parent Teacher Association (PTA) fundraisers.
