
GreenJackets Win Second Straight

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (16-3) won their second game in a row with a 4-1 win over the visiting Kannapolis Intimidators (8-10) on Monday night. Clayton Tanner pitched six shutout innings for the win and the GreenJackets scored three runs in the seventh to back their pitching.
Both teams were scoreless after five innings before Augusta scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to give Tanner a chance for the win. With one out in the frame the GreenJackets got back-to-back hits from Matt Weston and Nestor Rojas to put runners on the corners for Joey Dyche. Dyche connected for an RBI sacrifice fly to left scoring Weston for a 1-0 lead.
Tanner (3-0) scattered five hits over his six shutout innings worked, did not walk a batter and struck out five. Tanner also hit a batter in the fourth inning.
Augusta added three more runs in the seventh for a 4-0 lead. Marcus Sanders and Brian Bocock connected for back-to-back single to begin the frame and put runners on the corners. Bocock then stole second to put runners on second and third for Ryan Rohlinger, who connected for an RBI sacrifice fly to right scoring Sanders for a 2-0 lead.
Bobby Felmy followed with an RBI single scoring Bocock to put Augusta up 3-0. Felmy then stole second and third to move into scoring position for Brett Pill who connected for another RBI sacrifice fly, this time to center, scoring Felmy for a 4-0 lead.
The Intimidators plated one run in the eighth inning off reliever Henry Sosa to avoid their second shutout in two days.
Sosa recorded his first save of the season working three innings and allowing one run on just two hits while walking two and striking out four.
Augusta and Kannapolis will wrap up its series on Tuesday night with the GreenJackets sending right-hander Kevin Pucetas (1-0, 0.69) to the hill. The Intimidators will counter with right-hander Jose Zazueta (1-1, 1.74). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
Clayton Tanner has not allowed a run in 11 innings pitched dating back to his April 13 start.
Tanner pitched a career high six innings and matched a career high with five strikeouts.
Augusta connected for three RBI sacrifice fly ball outs in the game.
The GreenJackets stole four bases in the game, all in the seventh inning, and now have 45 on the season.
