Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ---For the 6th straight game, the Lakewood BlueClaws saw their contest decided by 1 run, and on Monday night, they pulled out a 2-1 win in 11 innings over Hagerstown, when Gus Milner scored from 2nd on a throwing error after a bloop single by Matt Reed. Reed lifted a pop-up in shallow left field, which fell between shortstop Stephen King and left fielder Joe Napoli. When Napoli threw the ball away at third, Milner scored the winning run.
Lakewood got 5 shutout innings from their bullpen, on just 1 hit. Garet Hill (2-1) pitched the 11th for the win, and Andrew Cruse and Ben Pfinsgraff each tossed 2 shutout.
Hagerstown left the bases loaded in the 10th, when Andrew Cruse, in his 2nd inning of work, struck out Justin Maxwell and Michael Martinez to end the inning. In the bottom of the 10th, Julian Williams of Lakewood singled, stole 2nd, and went to 3rd when the ball went into center field, but Jason Donald popped up to short to end the threat.
Matt Reed tied the game in the bottom of the 9th inning when he doubled off the top of the left-field wall with 2 outs, scoring Gus Milner from 3rd. Coby Mavroulis allowed the double, after he relieved Chris Lugo. Milner led off the inning with a single off Lugo, and moved up a base on each of 2 wild pitches.
Hagerstown got their run in the 2nd on an RBI single by Leonard Davis.
Both starters got no-decisions. Jarrod Freeman of Lakewood threw 5 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits. Cory Van Allen tossed 6 shutout for Hagerstown.
The BlueClaws will travel to Delmarva on Tuesday to open a 6 game road-trip with 3 in Delmarva and 3 in Lake County. Tomorrow's game begins at 6:35 with the pre-game at 6:20 on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB).
