
GreenJackets win battle of the bats

July 13, 2006 - The GreenJackets scored ten runs in an offensive showdown against the Kannapolis Intimadators Thursday Night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Jackets racked up six runs in the third inning to put them on their way to the win.
Augusta took the lead in the second inning when Eugenio Velez scored on a Pablo Sandoval infield single to shortstop. The GreenJackets would rally for nine more runs over the next two innings leaving the score 10-0. The game was highlighted by Eugenio Velez's 4- 5 night. He had three RBIs, two doubles, a run scored, and a stolen base to raise his average from .295 to .303, putting him over the .300 mark for the season. Sandoval also had a great night as he went 3-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Brandon Allen of the Intimadators drove all six runs in for Kannapolis as he hit two- three run homers over the right field wall.
Shairon Martis received the win as he pitched six innings allowing three hits and four runs to improve his record to 5-4. The first hit off Martis did not come until the fifth inning. Richard Brooks picked up the loss for the I's making his record 8-6 for the season.
Augusta plays Kannapolis in the rubber game Friday Night at Lake Olmstead Stadium at 7: 05 pm. Friday is Pirate's Night at the ballpark, so put on your best Pirate's costume and enjoy the festivities.
