Augusta GreenJackets News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga. - While the bats were quiet on Tuesday, the GreenJackets' pitching was dominant. Three Augusta (8-4) pitchers combined to allow just one run on three hits en route to a 2-1 victory against Lexington (4-9) at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Augusta opened the night with righty Martin Agosta on the mound. In Agosta's longest outing of the season, he gave up just one run and one hit while striking out seven batters in six innings.
Agosta holds a 2-1 record with a 1.84 ERA. He also has 18 strikeouts so far this season, which currently ranks second in the South Atlantic League behind Charleston's Rafael De Paula (23).
Brandon Farley relieved Agosta in the seventh. The 6-foot-2 righty worked two scoreless innings while giving up just two hits to earn his second hold of the season.
In the top of the ninth, closer Tyler Mizenko struck out two of the three batters he faced to earn the save. Mizenko now has four saves, which is the second most in the SAL.
Despite the slow offensive night, Matt Duffy stood out. Duffy, the GreenJackets' usual starting shortstop, served as the designated hitter and contributed to both of Augusta's runs.
Duffy got things started for the GreenJackets in the bottom of the first. With runners on first and third, Duffy extended his on-base streak to 12 when he drove in Jesus Galindo with a single to right field.
With one out in the bottom of the third, Duffy hit a hard line drive to deep center field for a stand-up triple. Third baseman Mitch Delfino scored Duffy with a single to left field.
