Green Bay Blizzard vs Tri-Cities Fever Game Preview
April 17, 2014 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay, WI - In their second straight home game, the Blizzard (0-6) will face the Tri-Cities Fever (1-5) on April 19th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Aurora Baycare Field at the Resch Center.
Saturday's game will be Youth Receiver Glove Night sponsored by Saranac Gloves. The first 600 youth 10 and under will receive a pair of free receiver gloves. Additionally, every youth 14 and under will receive a free giant team poster sponsored by Heyrman Printing and Fox 11.
The Blizzard will take the field Saturday night under the leadership of new Head Coach Tommie Williams. Williams was the offensive coordinator this year before taking over the position of Head Coach. Williams spent 2013 as Wide Receivers coach and was the Offensive Coordinator in 2011.
Both the Blizzard and the Fever are coming off of losses last week and will look to turn it around in only the third meeting ever between the teams. The Blizzard won the last match up 66-54 last season. The Blizzard and the Fever are two of only four remaining Arena Football League 2 (AF2) teams and both joined the IFL in 2010.
Green Bay will look to get a kick start from new Defensive Coordinator James Kerwin and from newly-signed veteran NFL and IFL standout Junior Aumavae. Kerwin was a prior head coach for the Omaha Beef and had one of the strongest defenses in the league during his time there. Aumavae played for the Blizzard in 2012, before being offered a contract with the New York Jets in 2013.
Both teams will look for continued improvement from their quarterbacks. Tri-Cities Houston Lillard has been a two-time second-team All-IFL quarterback in the past, but has since struggled in his return to the IFL, throwing four interceptions in his last two games. Lillard led his team to the United Bowl in both 2011 and 2012, finishing as the runner-up in both games.
Blizzard QB Nate Wara is still looking for his first professional win and will look to find it in front of a home crowd. The dual-threat QB currently has the third best completion percentage and is also tied for third in the IFL in rushing touchdowns with seven.
Defensively, the Blizzard will look to shut down a stand-out tandem of wide receivers in Dejuan Miller and Harry Peoples, who rank seventh and tenth respectively in receiving yards-per-game. Additionally, the Fever also have a strong rushing attack in the form of Keith Flemming, who is fourth in the league in rushing yards-per-game.
The Fever also have a daunting task in stopping Blizzard receivers Donte Sawyer and Andre London, who are second and third, respectively, in the IFL in receptions per game. Running back Lucien Walker is also a dangerous weapon as he had three rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown last week vs the Storm..
The Blizzard will be having their official post-game party at Burkel's One Block Over. Come on out after the game and hang out with Blizzard players, coaches, and staff while enjoying great food and drink specials.
