Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Green Bay, WI - In the second game of a back-to-back series between the Green Bay Blizzard (0-8) and the Bemidji Axemen (4-4), the Blizzard will look to get their first win of the season this Saturday, May 3rd. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Aurora Baycare Field at the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI.

Saturday is Bart Starr Bobblehead Night where the first 1,500 adults 18 and over will receive a Bart Starr bobblehead sponsored by BayTek Games and WFRV TV 5 with a minimum donation of $5.00 to the charity Rawhide.

Bemidji holds a 2-0 record over Green Bay so far this year, as the teams meet for the third installment of four total games this season. This will be the first time the two teams play in Green Bay, and the Blizzard hope to give the fans something to cheer about with a win.

While the Axemen have beaten the Blizzard twice already this season, it hasn't been easy. Bemidji has won both games by a total of 10 points, and each game could've gone either way. In the first game of the season, the Axemen won by four points at home, while the Blizzard completed only one of seven field goal attempts on the night. Last week, Green Bay held a 36-34 lead going into the final minute of the game, but couldn't hang on as Bemidji scored a touchdown with 26 seconds left and won by six points.

On offense, the Blizzard will look to the tandem of quarterback Nate Wara and running back Lucien Walker to help carry the team to a win. The duo has had stellar numbers over the past few weeks, and each player has found his stride running the ball to power the Green Bay offense. In the last three games, Wara has rushed for more than 275 yards and seven touchdowns, while Walker has added 146 yards and six touchdowns.

In addition to relying on team leaders, the Blizzard will look to some fresh faces to step in and make an immediate impact on the field. The team has signed six new players over the last week to account for injuries and roster needs, and the organization believes these players can help the team win now. The team hopes these signings help shore up the defensive line and backfield, as well as special teams.

The Axemen will be looking to get over .500 on the season with another win over the Blizzard this week. This will be former Blizzard head coach Robert Fuller's first trip back to Green Bay as Bemidji head coach since leaving the Blizzard in 2013.

Bemidji will rely on the arm of quarterback Cody Kirby to steer the team to another win after a shining performance last week, as the second-year starter threw for 195 yards and five touchdowns. One of those touchdowns came on a 45 yard catch-and-run by wide receiver Ryan Balentine, who leads the league in receiving yards-per-game on the season. Balentine finished last week's game with seven catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns, and will surely be a factor on offense for the Axemen this week.

On defense, the Blizzard will have to watch out for Bemidji standout DeQuan Starling, who led the team in tackles to go along with an interception and four passes defended last week. Starling, a former member of the Green Bay Blizzard, will hope to have another big game and slow down the ferocious Blizzard running attack.
