Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals got the team effort they were looking for tonight but couldn't get the result as they dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to the Port Huron Icehawks at Perani Arena and Event Center on Saturday night. It was a see-saw game all game long that saw the Generals have a one-goal cushion heading into the final 20 minutes but didn't hold the lead. Port Huron extended their unbeaten streak to five straight wins, while the Generals were only able to grab a point over the weekend. It was a good intense and fast paced opening 20 minutes between the Flint Generals and the Port Huron Icehawks. The visitors fired the game's first goal when Jeff Zehr scored on a partial breakaway when he made a good move on goaltender Chad Alban and got the puck by him. The Generals pulled even just near the end of the first period when Matt Elich split the defense and put the puck high on the stick side of goaltender Kevin DesFosses. The Generals had a solid and exciting middle stanza it was punctuated by two goals less than two minutes apart after the Icehawks had established a 2-1 advantage. First it was Justin DePretis with the Generals 16th power play goal and it was a tie game. Jared Dumba and Josef Fojtik with assists on the marker. Flint took the lead on a delayed penalty with great work from Ben Boudreau, Justin Styffe and Josef Fojtik. It was Styffe who just pushed the puck past the goal line to finish off the play. In the third period, the Icehawks pulled even on a goal by Jeremy Tucker who shot the puck through a screen. The overtime was exciting as Ryan Jorde had a couple of scoring chances set up by Josef Fojtik. The Generals had a power play but goaltender Kevin DesFosses came up with some great saves. In the shootout the Generals failed to score, the lone marker was scored by Jamie Carroll as he scored in sudden death. The first three shooters for each team failed to find the net.

Notes: The Generals without Greg Bullock tonight who was a scratch prior to warm-up. Chad Alban returns in goal for the Generals.
