Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (August 19, 2015)Â - The Great Falls Voyagers claimed their season series against the Grand Junction Rockies Wednesday night as they held on for a 2-1 victory at Centene Stadium.
For the second straight night, the Voyagers (11-8, 28-27) scored first. After Parker French pulled shortstop Brendan Rodgers off the bag at second on a potential double play ball with an errant throw, Great Falls took advantage of the extra out as Ryan Jones came through with a two-out single to go in front.
The score stayed 1-0 in favor of the Voyagers until the sixth. Grand Junction (5-14, 25-32) greeted reliever Chris Freudenberg with a Mylz Jones double in the frame, and Jones then scored one batter later on a Collin Ferguson single.
The contest was not tied for long however, as the Voyagers went right back in front in the home half. Joxelier Garcia was hit by a pitch by Juan Pena (0-2) to start the inning, then went all the way to third on a base hit from Dante Flores. Louis Silverio then followed with a sacrifice fly to restore the one-run lead.
Freudenberg worked out of a jam for Great Falls in the seventh before turning things over to Alex Katz. The lefty retired all six Rockies he faced, slamming the door to earn his second save of the campaign.
Great Falls starter Lucas Shearrow pitched very well in his second start of 2015, keeping Grand Junction off the board through five innings, his longest outing of the season. The righty surrendered just three hits, but had to settle for a no decision when the Voyagers lost the lead.
The win for Great Falls is their fourth over the Rockies this year, giving them a win of the season series, heading into Thursday's final matchup of the year.
The Voyagers look to take three out of four from the Rockies as they meet for the final time in 2015 Thursday night at Centene Stadium. All-Star lefty Tanner Banks (3-3, 1.93) will be on the hill for Great Falls, while Grand Junction will turn to right-hander Javier Medina (0-3, 7.85) First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
