Grand Slam from Carranza Highlights PaddleHeads Win over Mustangs

June 11, 2021 - Pioneer League (PL) - Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

Billings, MT. - The Missoula PaddleHeads once again fell into an early hole in game two of a three game set opposite the Billings Mustangs on Thursday evening at Dehler Park. After trailing by as many as 5 runs in game one of the series, the PaddleHeads would trail 3-0 after the first three innings of play. For the second consecutive night however, Missoula's offense would find their footing as the game would progress outscoring the Mustangs 8-0 after the third inning on their way to an 8-3 win.

Still trailing by three in the fourth inning, Missoula would load the bases looking to cut into the deficit. With two outs recorded in the inning, Tristen Carranza would do that, and then some hitting a towering blast over the left field wall bringing everyone home on a grand slam. Missoula would never trail from that point forward and Carranza would go on to finish with 5 RBIs in the game.

Domingo Pena delivered a solid outing for the PaddleHeads on the mound striking out 9 batters over six innings of work to earn his third victory of the season. Mark Simon continued his solid season out of the bullpen in two innings including his work to pitch out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh. The Houston native did not allow a hit and struck out two over those innings.

With the victory, Missoula (16-2) has now won eight consecutive games with five of those victories coming on the road.

Looking to help Missoula to their third consecutive series sweep will be the veteran right-hander Kevin Hilton who will also be in search of his second win of the season. First pitch from Billings is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Listen to all the action live on ESPN Missoula 102.9 F.M.
