Grand Prairie, TX- The yet to be named professional baseball team in Grand Prairie, TX is holding a "Name the Team" contest.
The "Name the Team" contest is open to all residents of the Dallas Metroplex. To submit a name, log onto www.grandprairiebaseball.com, and click on the link that says "Submit Your Team Name".
"This is the first opportunity we've had to engage the residents of the Metroplex and ask for their ideas to help us create a name for their team," says Mark Schuster Managing General Partner of Ventura Sports Group. Voters of Grand Prairie will be asked to vote on Proposition 2 at the May 12th election to build the minor league stadium with an extension of the sales tax that was used to build Lone Star Park. If approved, 1/8 cent sales tax will be used to build the minor league stadium. This sales tax has become available for use because the City has been able to pay off the debt on Lone Star Park 18 years early.
The first 1,000 participants to submit an entry will receive one complimentary ticket for the 2008 inaugural season at the new stadium being built in Grand Prairie. One Grand Prize winner, selected from the winning entries, will receive two season tickets and an on-field presentation on Opening Day of the stadium.
The "Name the Team" contest will run from March 21st until April 10th. A final list of possible names will be announced in early April and a team name is expected to be announced on April 25th.
The ballpark will be a destination place for family entertainment that will not only include baseball but other special events such as concerts, car shows and cultural activities of interest to the full cross-section of Grand Prairie area residents. The stadium will have 4,000 permanent seats with an additional 2,000 lawn seats and 12 luxury suites. There will be a Kids Zone play area, a swimming pool overlooking the field, cocktail bar, grill and soda fountain.
The American Association is made up of teams from Fort Worth; El Paso; Coastal Bend (Robstown, TX); Shreveport, LA; Pensacola, FL; St. Paul, MN; St. Joseph, MO; Lincoln, NE; Sioux Falls, SD; and Sioux City, IA.
Group and Season Tickets will go on sale in mid-May. For more information log onto www.grandprairiebaseball.com.
