NJ/NY Gotham FC News Release
HARRISON, NJ - Gotham FC (6-4-3) looks to secure back-to-back home wins this weekend, when the club hosts Angel City FC (3-6-4) at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, July 2 (5:30 p.m. ET, Paramount+ and MSG Network) for Women's Empowerment Night presented by Johnnie Walker.
Gotham FC's Wednesday night game in Orlando was postponed due to severe weather and travel delays. However, the club comes into the match with momentum after last week's home victory as it prepares for a familiar opponent.
Sunday's clash of the coasts will be a rematch of the thrilling kickoff of the 2023 regular season that saw Gotham FC defeated Angel City 2-1. The down-to-the wire, comeback win in Los Angeles featured second-half goals by Lynn Williams and Midge Purce, supported by a strong defensive performance led by goalkeeper Abby Smith. Gotham FC has an all-time record of 2-1 against Angel City, with each team securing a win and a loss during ACFC's debut season in 2022.
The evening will be a celebration of Women's Empowerment, as Gotham FC and Angel City take the field at Red Bull Arena sporting custom warmup jerseys designed by illustrator Monica Ahanonu, curated by Johnnie Walker. Representing a one team approach towards achieving gender equality, Monica Ahanonu's illustration depicts how "we lift each other up as we rise and break through barriers."
The tops are available for purchase at NWSLShop.com, with a portion of the proceeds going to support the Women's Sports Foundation and their mission to enable women to reach their potential in sports and life through financial support, groundbreaking research, education, and advocacy.
