Gorillas training camp kicks off Monday

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League will officially open training camp tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. There are 22 players vying for positions on the 18-man roster for the 2004-2005 season. Gorillas Head coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras will conduct them through two workouts tomorrow from 10 a.m. to Noon and from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Some of the familiar faces back with the Amarillo Gorillas including the team's leading point getters Derek Hahn, Henry Kuster and Captain Mark DeSantis, as well as fan favorites Eric Andersen and Dave Ratray. There are a number of new faces that will be at camp including goaltender Steve Briere, Mike Corneau, tough guy Ken Fels and Brent Hughes.

The Gorillas will hold their season ticket holder party on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. Training camp invitees will participate in a skills and drills competition in front of the season ticket holders. There will be food provided by Jason's Deli and a jersey auction to follow. Those season ticket holders who still have not confirmed for the party may call at 242-7825.

The Amarillo Gorillas will host the Lubbock Cotton Kings on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center in a pre-season contest. All seats are just $5 and can be picked up at the Gorillas hockey office located at 1934 Civic Circle; the Civic Center Box Office; At Panhandle Tickets located at Randy's Music Mart, the WT Event Center in Canyon and participating United Supermarkets. The 2004-2005 season for the Gorillas officially gets underway on Friday, October 22 at 7 p.m. when they host the Odessa Jackalopes at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. The evening is sponsored by Taco Villa and schedule magnets will be handed out at the door. On Saturday night, the Gorillas will then host the Lubbock Cotton Kings at 7 p.m.

- Thursday – 10 am to 11 a.m.

- Friday – 10 a.m. to Noon.

- Saturday – Exhibition Game 7 p.m. Lubbock Cotton Kings @ Amarillo Gorillas.
