Amarillo, TX 6/1/09 - Four-year Central Hockey League right winger Joe Guenther has signed with the Amarillo Gorillas for the 2009-10 season, the team announced Friday.

Guenther, 28 (05/04/81), will begin his fourth season with the Gorillas organizations. Last season, despite being placed on the IR in December with an abdominal injury, Guenther compiled 46 points (27-19-46) over 53 games.

"I want to win like anyone else, but I'm not getting any younger," expressed Guenther. "When Pelle' told me he was gathering some quality talent for this upcoming season, I wanted to be back in a Gorillas inform."

The Buffalo, New York native will enter his eighth professional season, with stops in Toledo, Baton Rouge, Indianapolis, Wheeling, Elmira, and Florida of the East Coast Hockey League, as well as Rio Grande Valley and Tulsa of the Central Hockey League.

"Joe is a big guy that creates offensive opportunities for himself and his teammates," expressed Gorillas Head Coach Brian Pellerin. "I will count on Joe to provide leadership both on and off the ice next season."

"Bringing Joe back will be key to our success in the upcoming season," said Gorillas General Manager Robert Simmons. "Joe brings it every night, and the Gorillas family welcomes him back to Amarillo."

Guenther made his mark in juniors while playing for Erie of the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 74 points in 73 career games with the Otters before moving on to Toronto, where he spent 44 games with the Majors. Guenther averaged over a point per game during his junior career.
