Gorillas sign athletic trainer

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League continue to work together and to be part of the local community and the Texas Panhandle.

The Gorillas announced today they have signed a local resident as the team's new Athletic Trainer for the 2004-2005 season.

Summer Roark, a native of Pampa, TX, and a graduate of the West Texas A and M Sports and Exercise Science with Athletic Training program will take over the duties of keeping the Gorillas players healthy and on the ice.

"I am very excited and thrilled to be the Athletic Trainer for the Gorillas this season," said Roark. "This is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to it."

Roark has been involved in the Athletic Trainer field since high school where as a junior she helped with the Pampa High School sports program. As of now, Roark is involved as an Athletic Trainer with the White Deer High School Football Team.

Gorillas Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras says he his thrilled to be able to hire someone from the community.

"This is very exciting for our organization," said Ferras. "We are very fortunate to have Summer on board she has a great personality and will be a great fit for our team".

As part of her responsibility, Roark will be working with help from the official doctors of the Amarillo Gorillas as well as the Sports Medicine Center and The Surgery Center on Soncy.

"Although this will be Summer's first time working with a hockey club, I am confident with the quality of individuals on this team along with our great medical staff lead by Dr. keith Bjork it will be a very rewarding experience," said Gorillas Head Coach Joe Ferras.

Hockey fans in the Texas Panhandle will get their first look at their 2004-2004 Amarillo Gorillas during an exhibition pre-season game on Saturday, October 16 when the G-men face the Lubbock Cotton Kings at 7 p.m. All seats for the game are $5 and can be purchased beginning Friday morning at the Gorillas hockey office located at 1934 Civic Circle, the Civic Center Box Office, At Panhandle Tickets located at Randy's Music Mart, the WT Event Center in Canyon and United Supermarkets.
