Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 7/13/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas have re-signed defenseman James Jernberg for the 2009-10 season, the team announced Monday.
Jernberg, 28 (01/05/81), will begin his second season with the Gorillas organization, where he participated in all but 5 games for Amarillo last season, capturing 107 penalty minutes (ranked second-most on the team), 2 goals and 10 assists.
"James will stand tall at the blue line and will certainly make it tough for the opponent if they choose to park themselves in front of our net," commented Gorillas Head Coach Brian Pellerin. "We are putting together a team this season that plays defensive hockey first. James is another piece to our puzzle."
The St. Cloud, Minnesota native will enter his second season of professional hockey. Jernberg played two seasons in Europe before suiting up in a Gorillas inform this past season.
"We are pleased to welcome James back to the Gorillas family," remarked Gorillas General Manager Robert Simmons. "We're bringing James back because he's a strong character guy who works his tale off on the ice."
Before turning pro, Jernberg attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he registered 49 points and 244 penalty minutes over four seasons.
