CHL Alumni Set to Lead AHL Champion Hershey Bears

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Washington Capitals (NHL) and the Hershey Bears (AHL) announced today in a joint announcement that Mark French has been named the head coach of the Hershey Bears, and that Troy Mann has been named the team's new assistant coach.

French had been the assistant coach of the Bears for the past two seasons helping the team win the Calder Cup this past season (the Calder Cup is given to the AHL Champions). Bob Woods, the former head coach of the Bears, was recently promoted to the Bears NHL affiliate (Capitals) as their assistant coach.

In the CHL, French (a native of Milton, Ontario) was the head coach and director of hockey operations for the Wichita Thunder between 2005-07 where he compiled a 70-59-16 record making it to the post-season in both 2006 and 2007.

Mann played 72 games in the CHL between 2002 and 2005 seeing action in San Angelo and Topeka. He was the assistant coach with the Topeka Tarantulas during the 2004-05 season before coaching with the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL between 2005 and 2008. Last season, the University of Toronto graduate was the associate head coach for the Charlotte Checkers (ECHL).
