Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 9/26/08 - When Gorillas Owner Randy Sanders bought the team, he promised that the organization would be more visible in the community.
Player/assistant coach Paul Caponigri is making sure the Gorillas live up to that promise.
Less than a week after arriving in Amarillo, Caponigri will participate in the 18th Annual Greater Amarillo Race for the Cure. The event, which takes place Saturday, September 27 in downtown Amarillo, serves to help raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer, and will also celebrate breast cancer survivors and honor those who lost their battle against the disease.
"I am happy to be representing the Gorillas in Amarillo at this event," said Caponigri. "I can't wait to help support such a worthy cause as the Susan G. Komen foundation. This is also a good way for me to get to know some of the great people in Amarillo before training camp gets under way in October."
Caponigri has chosen to take part in the 5K fun run event, which will begin at 9:15 AM. The goings-on will also feature a 5K competitive run and a one-mile family walk.
"I've been working on my running stride at the gym on the treadmill, but I don't think I'm quite ready to go competitive with it just yet," Caponigri laughed. "I guess I'm just a skater, not a runner."
The 18th Annual Greater Amarillo Race for the Cure will kick off at 6:30 AM with late registration, followed by the 5K competitive run at 8:00 AM, and the 5K fun run at 9:15 AM. The Susan G. Komen foundation will also host an expo beginning at 9:15 AM, featuring live music and entertainment. For more information on the event, call the Greater Amarillo Komen branch at (806) 354-9706.
The Gorillas will also be involved with other community events on this busy weekend. Stomp will be making an appearance at the CareNet Walk For Life on Saturday morning at 6709 Woodward Ave. in Amarillo. Mascot races will be held at the gathering, with Stomp taking on the Dillas Dude and various other icons from the surrounding area. The Gorillas staff will also be present at the sneak preview of the "Big Boo" haunted house at The Big Texan on east I-40.
Enjoy all the benefits of being an Amarillo Gorillas season ticket holder, including pregame meetings with Coach Coolen and one-of-a-kind access to special events! Gorillas season tickets for 2008-09 are available by calling (806) 242-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Gorillas office at 901 Buchanan in Amarillo.
