Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX â The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League announced today that forward Chris Robertson has been waived and will join the team's front office immediately.
"It's not an enjoyable part of the job", said Gorillas Head Coach Joe Ferras. "When it's a player that you have known for so long and consider a friend, it's even tougher."
"I would like to thank Joe Ferras, my teammates and the entire Amarillo Gorillas organization for giving me the opportunity to play this season. I am extremely disappointed that my play on the ice has not reached the level Coach Ferras and especially myself expect. However, I am honored and excited about the opportunity to contribute to the Gorilla organization and make it one of the best in minor pro sports" said Chris Robertson.
The native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has enjoyed a brilliant playing career that has spanned 14 years and has included stops in the Western Professional Hockey League, the Central Hockey League, the East Coast Hockey League, Denmark, Germany and the United Hockey League.
Robertson has captained two Canadian College Hockey Championship teams with the Mount Royal Cougars and an East Coast Hockey League Championship team with the Greensboro Monarchs.
" Playing professional hockey is certainly a job that has a lot of pressure and expectations," said Ferras. "We are playing very good hockey but not finishing on our chances. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to get some of our players going offensively," said Gorillas Head Coach Joe Ferras.
Robertson was a Western Professional Hockey League all-star in the 1996-97 season, while serving as a player-assistant coach with the New Mexico Scorpions. In 1998-99, Robertson was also a WPHL all-star with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays and chosen as the league's Most Valuable Player.
