Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX â The Amarillo Gorillas have signed one of the Central Hockey League's most dangerous players and prolific goal scorers in Dorian Anneck.
Gorillas Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Joe Ferras announced the signing of Anneck during a news conference today Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the Gorillas hockey offices on South Tyler.
Anneck had a sensational 2001-2002 season with Amarillo of the CHL where he compiled 44 goals and 35 assists for 79 points and 26 penalty minutes in 62 of the team's 64 games.
"It's fantastic to get a natural goal scorer back like Dorian Anneck," said Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Joe Ferras. "Dorian was our best player last year. He has the capability to control a game by himself and at times last year be dominant."
The 6-foot two-inch â 218-pound right winger from Winnipeg, Manitoba electrified crowds last year with some incredible goals by either firing his quick wrist shot or making beautiful moves around skaters and goaltenders.
Anneck once again was a dominant force in an all-star game, scoring three goals and two assists for the Northern Conference at the 2001-2002 CHL All-Star Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. Two years ago Anneck, who was a third round draft pick of his hometown Winnipeg Jets in the 1994 National Hockey League Draft, was named Most Valuable Player in the 2000 Western Professional Hockey League All-Star Game in Amarillo.
"I have been around professional hockey for 16 years and Dorian has one of the best wrist shots I've seen," said coach Joe Ferras." He scored 44 times last year of which at least 35 were highlight reel goals."
Anneck spent three seasons with the Monroe Moccasins of the Western Professional Hockey League (1997-98 to 1999-2000) where he put up some impressive numbers. In 198 games, the sharp shooter connected on 98 goals and 107 assists for 205 points.
Prior to arriving in Amarillo, Anneck spent the 2000-2001 season in the East Coast Hockey League with the Johnstown Chiefs and the Augusta Lynx where he compiled 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points in 62 games.
One of the many highlights in Dorian Anneck's young hockey career was in the 1995-96 season as a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings Brandon captured the Western Hockey League title and advanced to the Memorial Cup Canadian Major Junior Hockey Championship in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
"Dorian will be counted on heavily to be a leader not only on the ice, but in the dressing room and away from the arena," said Coach Ferras. "Dorian knows how important this season will be for the Gorillas organization and this will be a challenge Dorian will relish."
Along with the Wheat Kings, Anneck also played junior hockey for the Victoria/Prince George Cougars and the Tri-City Americans. In five seasons, Anneck played in 281 games and had 84 goals and 167 assists for 251 points. In 25 career playoff games, Anneck fired seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points as a member of the Wheat Kings.
The Amarillo Gorillas will host the Lubbock Cotton Kings in their first inaugural game on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Gorillas first season in the Central Hockey League is not to be missed. Season Tickets and Game Packs are available by calling 806-242-7825.
