SCORPS' AND JACKS' TO FILL âKINGS PRESEASON LUBBOCK WILL HOST ONE OF TWO GAMES ON PRESEASON SCHEDULE
LUBBOCK, TX: August 27, 2002 â The Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League have announced they will play two games on their preseason schedule, opening up the preseason in Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 11th against the New Mexico Scorpions and following up with the Odessa Jackalopes on October 12th for their final tune-up for the regular season.
"This preseason schedule is a test of what is to come," said Cotton Kings head coach/director of hockey operations, Bill McDonald. "Playing back-to-back games in different cities in consecutive nights is very typical during the regular season, so with the preseason schedule I get an opportunity to get the players used to back-to-back games and also get to see how they react (energy wise) from the first game to the second."
The exhibition games will wrap up training camp, which begins on October 7th. Under the CHL guidelines, the Cotton Kings will only be permitted to invite 30 players into training camp. Invitees will report for a physical evaluation on Saturday, October 5th, and will gather with fans on Sunday, October 6th at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum for the Meet-and-Greet Open House from 4 â 7pm (subject to change). This gives the season ticket holders a chance to pick up their season tickets and to join in with the general public to get Cotton King player autographs. Coach Bill McDonald will also introduce Cotton Kings camp members and will go over hockey simulations with the fans.
The âKings will have their first training camp workout on Monday, October 7th and will have workouts each day until their opening preseason contest on Friday, October 11th in Sante Fe against the Scorpions. It will be the first time the Cotton Kings have ever played the Scorpions in the preseason and the first time the Cotton Kings have ventured to the Albuquerque based franchise's training camp facility (Chavez Community Center) in Sante Fe. The contest will begin at 8pm CST and ticket information can be obtained by calling the New Mexico Scorpions at (505) 881-7825. Lubbock's home preseason contest on Saturday, October 12th is set for a 7:05 pm face-off against the Odessa Jackalopes. Tickets for the exhibition game will go on sale at 10am, Monday, October 7th.
Individual game tickets for the regular season will go on sale at that same time. Ticket prices for the exhibition contest are $7 in advance and are $12, $14 and $16 on the day of the event. Tickets outlets for the Cotton Kings include the Cotton Kings offices (13th & University) and all Select-A-Seat locations.
Training camp will come to a close after the contest against Odessa and the team will then workout with an 18-man roster in preparation for the CHL regular season opener on Friday, October 18th in Amarillo. The Cotton Kings are 3-1-1 all-time in the preseason and 1-0-1 all-time against this season's preseason opponents.
The Cotton Kings are currently preparing for the 2002-2003 season, and their second season in the Central Hockey League. Season ticket information can be attained by calling (806) 747-PUCK, or visiting the Cotton Kings website at www.cottonkings.com. --PUCK--
