Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Goaltender Steve DeBus set a new Amarillo professional hockey record with his third shutout of the season to lead the Gorillas to a 3-0 victory over the Corpus Christi Rayz on Tuesday night at the Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center.

DeBus, who broke the mark previously set by three previous goaltenders of two with the Amarillo Rattl.ers, had an outstanding game turning aside all 33 shots he faced.

For the Gorillas it was their 14th win on home ice which ties them for second for most wins at home this season with the Oklahoma City Blazers and the Memphis RiverKings. The Gorillas are one home ice win away from the Laredo Bucks who lead the CHL with 15 wins.

In the game, Scott Wray, Ben Gustavson and Brian Pellerin scored for Amarillo in the first 40 minutes of the hockey game as the Rayz couldn't get much going offensively.

The Gorillas are now five points back of the Tulsa Oilers and the Indianapolis Ice for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference with several games in hand on each team.

Amarillo returns to action this Friday when they travel to Fort Worth to face the Brahmas at 7:05 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The game can be heard live on 1440 AM The Score beginning with the Pizza Hut Warm Up Show with the voice of the Gorillas Denis J. Puska. The game is also available on the Gorillas website at www.amarillogorillas.com

The Gorillas return back to home ice on Saturday when they host the Memphis RiverKings at 7 p.m. It is the first and only appearance by the defending CHL Champions this season. It is military appreciation night and the first 500 fans receive a puck courtesy of Sonic America's Drive In. The Gorillas will wear their camouflage jerseys and an auction follows in the Ape Escape after the game.
