Gorillas beat Lubbock on home ice, 3-2, to close preseason

AMARILLO, TX – Newcomer Mike Corneau fired the game winning goal with just two seconds remaining in the game to lift the Amarillo Gorillas to a 3-2 victory over the Lubbock Cotton Kings in CHL Pre-Season action on Saturday night in front of large and enthusiastic crowd.

The Gorillas had control in the contest early leading 2-0 before the game was half old thanks to second period goals from Derek Hahn and Brent Hughes. The Cotton King srallied with a goal in the second and another in the third period tie the score at 2-2 before the thrilling finish. Steve Briere posted the win in goal for the Gorillas.

The Amarillo Gorillas will begin the process of trimming their roster down to the mandated 18 players in time for their home opener on Friday, October 22 at 7 p.m. when they host the Odessa Jackalopes. The night is sponsored by Taco Villa and schedule magnets will be handed out at the door. The Gorillas will wear their opening night jerseys and an auction follows in the Ape Escape.

On Saturday night, the Gorillas will host the Lubbock Cotton Kings at 7 p.m. to conclude home opening weekend. There will be a tailgate party in the afternoon in the back parking lot on Johnson Street.

Both games can be heard live on 1440 Am The Score beginning with the Farmer's Insurance Group Warm Up Show at 6:40 pm followed by the puck drop at 7 p.m. Denis J. Puska will return for his third year as voice of the Gorillas and fourth as the broadcaster in Amarillo.
