AMARILLO TX â The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League announced today the signing of a couple of young players for the 2004-2005 season.
The Gorillas signed defenseman Trevor Socholotuk and forward Justin Bodine.
Socholotuk, (pronounced Sock-ho-lo-tuck) a five-foot, 11 inch, 182 pound right shooting defenseman, spent last year in the World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2), now known as the Southern Professional Hockey League, where he played in 33 games with the Miami Manatees and had five goals and 10 assists for 15 points and 114 penalty minutes. He later moved on to the Cape Fear Fire Antz where he saw action in nine games and had three assists for three points.
"I am pretty excited to be joining the CHL, I have heard a lot of positive things about the league and how well respected it is," said Socholotuk. "Joe sounds like the type of coach I like to play for and I am looking forward to coming to Amarillo. I like to bang and crash the boards and be part of the game anyway I can."
The Kenora, Ontario native (located in Northwest Ontario near Thunder Bay approximately 9 hours from the United States Border) spent his junior career with the Winnipeg Saints of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Notre Dame is the same private school that produced former Amarillo Gorillas player and assistant Coach Brian Pellerin.
"My experience at Notre Dame School in Saskatchewan was great and it taught me a lot about discipline," Socholotuk said.
"Scott Rex, who is a close friend of mine from Brantford was Trevor's coach last season and spoke very highly of him and of his character and team commitment that he brought to Cape Fear last season" said Gorillas Head coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras. "He plays a gritty game and skates really well and we are glad to have him in a Gorillas uniform. "
The Gorillas also are proud to announce the signing of forward Justin Bodine who spent last season in the North American Junior Hockey League (NAHL).
