Chivas USA Notes (2-0 win vs. New England Revolution, The Home Depot Center, Carson, Calif., 9/10/10)

- Chivas USA used a strong first half to capture a 2-0 win over the New England Revolution on Friday night at The Home Depot Center. Recently acquired forward Alan Gordon was the star for the Red-and-White, with two excellent passes to earn assists on both goals.

- Forward Justin Braun scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season in just the 6th minute of the match, flicking a low shot from a tight angle over a charging Matt Reis and into the Revolution goal. Gordon had played a through ball from 25 yards out, finding Braun running through the Revolution defense.

- Chivas USA struck again in the 36th minute, this time with midfielder Paulo Nagamura scoring his first goal of the season. Michael Lahoud played a ball into the box and Gordon knocked the ball down directly at the feet of Nagamura, who blasted a shot from 20 yards. Reis was able to get a hand on the ball but couldn't keep it out of the net.

- In the second half, Chivas USA maintained possession and goalkeeper Zach Thornton was forced to make just three saves in the game as he earned his fifth shutout of the season. Thornton moves into sole possession of second place on Major League Soccer's all-time shutout list, with 75 clean sheets in his career.

- With the win, the Red-and-White improve to 7-12-4 (W-L-T) on the season, good for 25 points. The team moves out of last place in the Western Conference for the first time since May 15, and the team sets its sights on the San Jose Earthquakes, who have 32 points and are currently occupying the final playoff position.

- Braun's goal was the 16th of his Chivas USA career, moving him ahead of Sacha Kljestan on the team's all-time scoring list. Braun is in third on the chart, two goals behind Maykel Galindo and 14 behind Ante Razov.

- Chivas USA Head Coach Martín Vásquez, on tonight's match: "Offensively, defensively, I thought everybody was solid, and it's a good win for us. It comes at a very good moment, a very good time."
