Dayton, Ohio - Miles Gordon blasted a tie-breaking two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Dayton Dragons to a 4-1 victory over the Lake County Captains. The win was the third straight for the Dragons and squared their record at 3-3 after three straight losses to start the year.

The score was 1-1 when the Dragons came to bat in the eighth. With one out, Jeter Downs singled off the glove of the pitcher to bring Gordon to the plate. He launched a long home run to right field, his first homer of the year, to make it 3-1. The Dragons added an unearned run later in the inning, taking advantage of two Lake County errors, to make it 4-1. Dayton reliever Connor Ryan allowed a lead-off single in the ninth before getting a double play ball and then a game-ending strikeout to earn his first save.

Dragons starting pitcher Packy Naughton (SEE ATTACHED PHOTO) was outstanding as he became the team's first starter to work into the seventh inning of a game this season. Naughton went six and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and one run with no walks and seven strikeouts. He was not involved in the decision. Reliever Ryan Nutof (1-0) earned the win, retiring all five batters he faced including three on strikeouts. Nutof entered the game with a man at second base and one out in the seventh and worked out of that jam before striking out the side in order in the eighth.

Lake County scored a single run in the second inning to take the lead before the Dragons tied the game in the fourth. Dayton's Montrell Marshall blooped a ground rule double to right field with one out and Stuart Fairchild drove him in with a base hit to left field to make it 1-1.

The Dragons collected nine hits. John Sansone was 3 for 4 with a double. Montrell Marshall had two hits including a double and he also scored a run.

Notes: Dragons pitchers have allowed just five runs in the last three games, all wins, after giving up 24 runs in the three losses...Dragons relievers have not allowed a run since Saturday night, working on a streak of 12.1 consecutive scoreless innings.

Up Next: The Dragons (3-3) host Lake County (4-2) on Wednesday night at 7:00 in the third game of the four-game set. Mac Sceroler, a product of Southeastern Louisiana University who was a fifth round draft pick in 2017, will pitch for the Dragons. Sceroler will be opposed by Lake County's Juan Hillman.

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
