Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Four former BlueClaws have already made their Major League debuts in 2008 and two more will likely join the list in the very near future. Greg Golson and Lou Marson were both added to the Philadelphia Phillies Major League roster on Monday as teams had the option of expanding their 25-man roster up to 40.

Neither of the two appeared in their first game with the club on Monday, but each could make their debut shortly, which would make them the 22nd and 23rd BlueClaws players to make a big league appearance.

Golson, 22, spent the entire 2005 and part of the 2006 season with the BlueClaws. A first round draft pick in 2004 (24th overall), he played in 182 career games with Lakewood, hitting a combined .241 with 11 home runs and 58 RBIs. Golson remains the BlueClaws franchise leader in hits (184), runs (107), at-bats (763) and is second all-time in triples (12).

Golson has spent the entire 2008 season with the Double-A Reading Phillies, going .282 with 13 home runs and 60 RBIs. He was a member of the 2008 US Futures team, playing in the annual game during the Major League Baseball All-Star festivities.

Marson, 22, was the BlueClaws starting catcher for the 2006 championship season and has emerged as one of the top prospects in the Phillies system. Marson hit .243 in 104 games with the 'Claws in 2006 with four home runs and 39 RBIs.

Marson joined Golson on the Futures Team in July and has spent much of the last month with the US Olympic Team, helping them to a bronze medal. In 94 games with Reading this season, Marson hit .314 with five homers and 46 RBIs.

Marson and Golson are set to join Brad Harman, Bobby Korecky, R.J. Swindle and Randy Ruiz as former BlueClaws that have debuted in the big leagues in 2008. BlueClaws 2008 hitting coach (and 2001 manager) Greg Legg was also added to the Phillies coaching staff for a month of the 2008 campaign, making his coaching debut. Legg did play in 14 games with the Phillies as a player in 1986-87.
