Goldeyes Sneak by Wingnuts

WINNIPEG, MB- The Wichita Wingnuts (46-34) lost 3-1 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes (47-32) at Shaw Park on Saturday evening.

Winnipeg erased a 1-0 Wingnuts' lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out and no one on base, Amos Ramon homered to deep left field to tie the game. Price Kendall and Chris Roberson followed with back-to-back walks. A double steal attempt resulted in Kendall getting thrown out at third base for the second out of the inning. With Roberson now on second, Yurendell de Caster grounded a single just fair down the left field line that drove in the lead run.

Wichita loaded the bases on three walks in the top of the seventh before Brian Beuning worked out of the jam to keep the Goldeyes in front by one run.

The Goldeyes added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Ramon led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on a groundball single through a drawn-in infield from Kendall.

Beuning was perfect over the eighth and ninth innings to record an eight-out save.

Wichita's lone run came in the top of the sixth. Greg Porter doubled to deep left with two outs and no one on base. Wilberto Ortiz drove in Porter with a line drive single to right-center.

Anthony Capra started and took a tough loss for the Wingnuts, allowing two earned runs on just three hits in six innings. Capra struck out four and walked four.

Chris Salamida started and earned the win for Winnipeg, allowing one earned run on six hits in six and one-third innings. Salamida struck out four and walked two.

Mike Conroy's 11-game hitting streak came to an end. James Baker worked a scoreless inning of relief for the Wingnuts. Wichita left nine runners on base in the loss.

Wichita completes its 15-game road trip with a record of 9-6.
